Snow Goose, Anser caerulescens. Locally common in breeding locations and in a few key wintering locations. Breeding range is the northernmost edges of Canada and Greenland, migrating during winter to south-midwest and the southwest. Diet consists of grains from agricultural fields and roots of marsh grasses. Snow geese travel in large flocks during migration, some massive flocks reaching up to the hundreds of thousands of individuals. They exhibit two morphs, a light and dark, with intermediate variations between. The wintering grounds are often mixed with other species of geese, ducks, other waterfowl, and eagles.
