have you found yourself at the washburn koi pond? WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO WATCH our VIDEO AND JOIN THE MEMBERS OF BIOLOGY CLUB ON A TOUr!
The Biology Club has made it our mission to bring more knowledge to the science that surrounds the Koi Pond located right on our campus. Below, you will find more facts about the major groups of flora and fauna mentioned in the video that can commonly be seen in habitats that share similar ecosystems with Washburn's Koi Pond.
some common species
One common plant species you may find in the koi pond is lemnoideae, also known as duckweed! Duckweed provides a habitat for different types of fish and frogs, like the one in the picture. This plant is also a great food source for fish and waterfowl. It does come with one big problem though; it multiplies rapidly! This is why most pond owners try to remove duckweed as soon as possible.
How to identify: duckweed looks like algae from a distance, but duckweed is not interconnected like algae is!
