Northern Mockingbird, Mimus polyglottus. Common from California to New York, expanding north during breeding season, and some migrating to Mexico during winters. They prefer open habitats with sparse trees and are adapted well to suburban and city habitats. The Mockingbird is omnivorous with a wide range of choice foods. Mockingbirds are known for mimicking the calls of other birds or various other sounds they hear, which is mainly done by the males as a feature of sexual selection. They are also known for their intelligence, along with memorizing hundreds of sounds, they can also remember faces of humans and associate them with providing food or being a threat. Mockingbirds are highly territorial, defending their nesting spot or a choice tree from other birds and animals.
