Carolina Parakeet, Conuropsis carolinesis. The only parakeet found naturally in North America, became extinct in 1920 where the last wild sighting was in Florida in 1904 and the last captive individual dying in 1918 at the Cincinnati Zoo. They used to be found as far north as New York and as far west as eastern Colorado. The diet of this parakeet consisted of seeds, grains, and fruits. They became extinct due to deforestation mainly and were also frequently hunted for use of their colorful feathers. The introduction of European Honeybees also had a great negative impact on them, competing for nest sites. The Carolina Parakeet nested in tree cavities and lived in flocks of up to 300.
