Bullock's Oriole, Icterus bullockii. Regionally common, breeding in western U.S. and wintering in Mexico. Their diet consists of insects, fruit, and nectar. The preferred habitat is open deciduous woodland. Orioles are known to build nests in spherical forms, hanging from outer branches of trees. This species is sexually dimorphic, the males being more brightly colored. Juveniles will resemble adult females. Bullock’s orioles were once thought to be the same species as Baltimore orioles, but research and genetic testing has found them to be separate species.
