Brown Thrasher, Toxostoma rufum. Uncommon and solitary, ranging across the U.S. more frequently to the east, breeding above the South and wintering in Texas. Found in dense brush and wooded areas, often foraging on the ground and digging through leaves. The Brown Thrasher is omnivorous, having a wide range of foods. Often vocally confused with the Mockingbird, the Brown Thrasher has the largest known repertoire of sounds, up to 3,000 phrases! They are also capable of mimicking sounds. Note streaking pattern on front for identification.
